At Abby&Co. Canine Rescue, our focus is rescuing dogs from shelters where they may have experienced stress and anxiety from not having a home of their own. We place them in loving foster homes where they are given their first taste of home life- they get to experience the beginnings of crate and house training before they find their new families. New dogs will need time to decompress when coming into a new environment and may be nervous or want to sleep for a couple of days. They may not have complete crate or housetraining and will rely on you to help them become pros at these things. When you bring them home, it is best to start as if they have not been house trained or crate trained. We also try our best get a very good idea of what a dogs behavior, health and temperament is like, but please understand that sometimes (rarely) things can change once you bring them home.
We recommend that you take your new dog to your vet within a couple of days of adoption. This allows you to build a relationship with your vet and start them on a wellness checkup schedule. If you need suggestions for vets in the NRV area, we are more than happy to provide some!
General Adoption Fee: our adoption fee is $200 for all of our adoptable dogs. This fee helps cover the expenses that it takes to care for all of our dogs, so it is treated like a donation. This includes spaying/neutering, general vet care, and other supplies and food that are essentials to our rescue operation.
Adoption Fee for INTACT Dogs: dogs that have not yet been spayed or neutered have a $150 adoption fee plus a $100 Spay/Neuter Deposit that will be refunded once we receive confirmation that your new pet has been sterilized. The adoption fee can be paid with cash, check, or with credit/debit card through PayPal. The Spay/Neuter Deposit must be paid with credit/debit card through PayPal so we can get your refund processed and back in your account as quickly as possible!
Fill this out as accurately and truthfully as you can- it helps us in matching you with your new family member!
You can narrow it down so we know who to set up meet and greets with.
It is a good idea for you to bring everyone who will be living in the home with you so that you get an idea of how the dynamic may work (this includes other dogs). We suggest this because sometimes our dogs haven't had the opportunity to be around kids yet or your dog and we want to make sure they will do well.
Once you have decided you are ready to take this big step into dog parenthood and are ready with supplies (crate, bowls, leashes, food, etc.) then you are ready to take your new friend home!
We love to know how our Abby&Co. friends are doing so feel free to reach out with pictures and stories- we will share them to our social media as well! We will email you along the way to see how you are doing!
